Exhibits and Press
Currently there are no upcoming dates for an art show. I’m releasing paintings here direct from my studio.
Artists Statement
The paintings are inspired by the beauty and mystery of the natural world,
And the commonalities that we share within it.
Within these commonalities I believe we find truth.
In painting I strive for experience over interpretation.

Reflecting on art shows
The paintings presented in exhibits are predominately expressionist since I usually enjoy drawing and painting from imagination. I draw inspiration from nature and nature’s principals of form, colour and light. There is a breaking down of natures visual elements and then an inspired reassemble onto canvas. Art shows reveal my focus & development over time. I see the paintings become more defined in form or spatially structured yet more liberated from expectations. For me its not so much what I’m painting but how that interests me most, a process that opens up more possibilities for painting.
Creating work for an art exhibits was crucial in developing more fluidity between seeing and painting, They help drive a focus on the essence of what is inspiring and exploring that more thoroughly with multiple canvases.

Group art shows and art competitions
Group show participation has been predominantly thru juried art competitions notably Gallery Lambton’s annual Look Show, an open call to multi-media artists of southwestern Ontario and north east Michigan, sort of a border cultural exchange.
In 2000 both landscape paintings entered were accepted with one taking first place win. This win from my home town was energizing to my fine art passion and perhaps gave a self-taught painter some validation, shortly after was invited to have an exhibit of my work at Gallery in the Grove, Bright’s Grove. A tip of the hat to Mrs H.Berger for her support. I never will forget my first show and the friends and family that came out to the opening to support me on that warm summer day. All because I entered some paintings in a contest to see if anything would happen. ~ Skot

BlueWater Health Sarnia Lambton Childrens Murals by Skot MacDougall
I was honoured to be chosen for the multiple mural commission. There were 11 initial murals painted thorough out the ward. I worked from original designs and concepts inspired by animal themes and caring relationships. I really enjoyed the experience and being part of such a good cause ~ Skot
